A Luncheon Briefing featuringH.E. Archibald Mooketsa Mogwe Friday, October 22 12:00 Noon (11:30 a.m. reception) Ambassador Mogwe will be visiting New Orleans to participate in the official opening of the Kraal Gallery, located in the French Quarter, which will feature a collection of magnificent tapestries designed and hand woven in Botswana. About Ambassador H.E. Archibald Mooketsa Mogwe Before he was appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Botswana to the United States, Brazil and Mexico, and High Commissioner to Canada, Ambassador Mogwe had served the Government of Botswana for 38 years, first as a School Inspector and Permanent Secretary to the President in the Public Service for the first 18 years and as a Cabinet Minister for 20 years apportioned equally between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Minerals, Energy and Water Affairs. Ambassador Mogwe is a teacher by profession. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree of the University of South Africa, a Certificate in Educational Administration of the University of Reading, and a Certificate in International Relations from Oxford University, England, respectively. Ambassador Mogwe was the first Motswana to rise to the level of Secretary to the Cabinet of his country and the first to serve as a Minister of Foreign Affairs at a time of the struggle for liberation from colonial powers in Southern Africa. He has had to deal with and participate in discussions involving the Freedom Fighters of Namibia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and South Africa. Among his historic achievements has been the setting up of the Southern African Development Coordination Conference, later to become the Southern African Development Community. Among Ambassador Mogwe’s personal interests are the formation of the Notwane Sports Club, which he served as President for 10 years, and the co-founding of Maru-a-Pula Private Secondary School, the Council of which he was Chairman for 23 of its 26 years of existence. His major hobby is pastoral farming. Ambassador Mogwe is married and has three adult children. Sponsoring Organizations
