Astrid Fischel In addition to being the Vice President of Costa Rica, H.E. Astrid Fischel is the Minister of Culture, a Professor of History at the University of Costa Rica, a Representative Member for Costa Rica on the Council for Social Integration of Central America, and a Specialist in Management and Development at the Central America Institute for Business Administration. She received a Masters degree in History from the University of Costa Rica and a Ph.D. in History from the University of Southampton, England. Dr. Fischel has received national awards for "Business Woman of the Year," "Aquileo J. Echeverria" in History, and "Cleto Gonzalez Viquez" in Geography and History. She has authored numerous books, including "The Magic Box, One Hundred Years of History of the National Theatre," "The Ingenious Use of the Ideology in Costa Rica," and "Consensus and Repression, A Social-Political Interpretation of the Costa Rican Education System."
