Michael W. Liikale is currently the Senior Commericial
Officer in Spain and oversees all commercial operations for the
United States through the Embassy offices in Madrid and Barcelona.
He is also responsible for the U.S. Commercial Service’s
Europe-wide e-commerce program. He has spent 20 years in senior
positions in the field and in Washington D.C., including serving as
Senior Commercial Oficer in Buenos Aires and as the Commercial
Service’s Western Regional Director, in charge of 60 Export
Assistance Centers in 13 western U.S. states.
He also served as Chief of Staff and Senior Trade Advisor to two
Under Secretaries of Commerce advising on national security and
trade-related issues.
Mr. Liikala completed a Master’s program at John Hopkins School
of Advanced International Studies in International Law/Economics and
has a Master’s Degree in Finance and Public Administration from
the University of Southern California. He received a B.A. in Law and
Public Policy from the University of California.
