This forum is designed to reach out to the
greater New Orleans community for support of the work being done
by Peace Corps Volunteers and the role the private sector plays
in this work. 2004 marks 40 years of Peace Corps/Private Sector
collaboration, linking donors to the global community at the
grassroots level. Participants will learn about the valuable work
being done by Peace Corps Volunteers around the world and the
opportunity to make a tax deductible donation that provides
maximum social return on investment. 100% of donations to
Partnership Program go towards programming.
Peace Corps Partnership Program, a
public-private partnership between American citizens and the
communities where Peace Corps Volunteers serve, was established in
1964 in response to the extreme poverty the first Peace Corps
Volunteers confronted in their overseas assignments. Forty years,
millions of people, and thousands of community-based projects
later, the spirit of Peace Corps remains firmly bound with the
spirit of American generosity and continues to empower people
around the world to improve their lives.
In addition to basic health, education
and community development, today the work of Peace Corps
Volunteers is a major force in bringing information and
communications technology skills to men and women in even the most
remote locations. Their efforts are making it possible for the
communities they serve to join in global trade, engage in exciting
new learning, and explore ideas and opportunities previously out
of reach.
Peace Corps Mission: Promoting Peace &
Friendship
Since 1961, this mission has been
furthered by three goals....
1. Helping people of interested
countries meet their need for trained men and women;
2. Helping promote a better
understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served;
3. Helping promote a better
understanding of other peoples on the part of all Americans.
Peace Corps "Partners in
Peace" include the Levi Strauss Foundation, the UPS
Foundation, and the JP Morgan Chase Foundation, in addition to a
strong grass-roots donor base throughout America consisting of
hundreds of community groups, civic clubs, Return Peace Corps
Volunteers groups, faith-based organizations and schools.
