Duty drawback provides an opportunity to obtain a refund of duties, fees and taxes incurred at the time of importation. This two-hour seminar covers issues and procedures for maximizing savings using duty drawback and includes instruction in interpreting U.S. Customs and Border Protection drawback regulations.

Seminar Topics Include:

  • Review of manufacturing drawback, unused drawback and rejected merchandise drawback (including the application and approval process and recordkeeping requirements)
     
  • Different methods used to claim drawback: direct identification and substitution
     
  • Basis of claim
     
  • Privilege application and approval process
     
  • Impact of NAFTA on drawback programs (including “lesser of two duties”)
     
  • Penalty provisions, Drawback Compliance Program and reasonable care requirement

Michele Snider, resident in the Detroit office, is a Drawback Account Manager for Sandler & Travis Trade Advisory Services, Inc.  She is responsible for obtaining Drawback for a large and varied client base.  Ms. Snider has been a licensed Customs broker since 1998 and brings almost 11 years drawback experience to STTAS.  Ms. Snider is also an active member of the World Trade Club and the Greater Detroit Chamber of Commerce (www.detroitchamber.com).
