Russia is the world's largest total energy producer. It is the largest producer and exporter of natural gas and near the top in oil production and sales. As existing onshore fields mature, Russia is planning to not only maintain its current levels, but to increase its oil and gas production in the years to come. To reach these goals, it must turn to known, but undeveloped deposits in the offshore territories of the Western Arctic, Far East and Central Asian sea shelves, along with onshore fields in Eastern Siberia.

The luncheon presentation will summarize the results of a new study on the Russian offshore oil and gas industry, including information on location of the larger fields, shelf projects planned or underway, Russian LNG plans, and equipment and technology that will be needed to explore and develop the Russian continental shelf. Despite recent controversy sparked by resurgent nationalism in the Russian energy industry, reflecting global trends, Russian offshore projects offer an array of opportunities for oil and gas operators, equipment suppliers, service companies, transport firms, financial institutions and traders. The size and complexity of the development projects for the Russian offshore dictate that foreign participation is absolutely essential for success. Forward-looking companies that want to consider whether the emerging Russian offshore oil & gas industry is a business opportunity worth investigating should not miss this presentation.

Daniel Satinsky previously served as the Executive Editor of Russian Petroleum Investor and Caspian Investor, analytic journals specializing in the energy sector in the former Soviet Union. He also serves as President of the U.S.-Russia Chamber of Commerce of New England, Inc. Mr. Satinsky has been a regular business visitor to Russia since 1989 and is a frequent speaker on Russia-related topics.
