Introducing You To International Trade
Louisiana’s level of exports and imports are at an
all-time high. The steadily expanding global economy and U.S. Free
Trade Agreements with other countries have created numerous
opportunities for exporting goods and services from Louisiana to all
regions of the world. Additionally, Hurricane Katrina has generated
great demand for pre-manufactured homes, building materials, and
other construction-related products and services as New Orleans and
other parts of southern Louisiana rebuild their infrastructure and
revive the economy.
Have you been thinking about getting involved in
the global marketplace but feel intimidated or have been wondering
where and how to start? Do terms like FOB, CIF, letters of credit,
bills of lading, and proforma invoices confuse you? How will the
new Free Trade Agreements with other countries affect your
business? Well, wait no longer -- right now is a great time to
start learning what it takes to export and import.
The purpose of this introductory workshop
is to walk you through the fundamentals of an international
transaction, to give you an overview of the basic export-import
process, and to provide you with the confidence and comfort level
to demonstrate that it’s not as daunting as you may think to
succeed in international trade.
What Comes Afterwards?
If you like what you hear at the January 19
luncheon workshop, then you can learn more about this
exciting -- and very profitable -- process by taking the next
step and signing up for a package of four 4˝-hour afternoon
seminars to be held on March 6, 8, 13, and 15 from 12:30 p.m. to
5:00 p.m. at the World Trade Center and conducted by the Louisiana
International Trade Center. In those seminars, you will learn step-by-step the
“how-to” of international market research, preparing products for
export & import, pricing strategies, terms of sale & quotations,
export & import documentation, export shipping & import entry
procedures, trade financing, and -- the bottom line -- methods of
payment. For more information on this 4-seminar series, visit the
Louisiana International Trade Center/SBDC website at
