Topics of discussion will include current political, economic and social issues in Mexico under the Calderon administration , as well as specific trade and investment opportunities for Louisiana companies especially in the energy, transportation, forest products, health care, high technology, and gaming industries. Mr. van Heuven will also
address the requirements and advantages for the best entry strategies for success in the Mexican market , including setting up a branch office, tax incentives, labor, transportation and other issues.
About Jay Van Heuven
Prior to assuming
his current position as President of the North American Trade and
Investment Group, Jay Van Heuven served as President of the North
American Free Trade Agreement Association, working to promote
ratification of the North America Free Trade Agreement. He also
served for 14 years as Executive Vice President of the United
States-Mexico Chamber of Commerce, representing the Mexican
private sector and many major U.S. corporations doing business in
Mexico.
His corporate
experience includes executive positions in Universal Forest
Products and Caterpillar Tractor Corporation working in behalf of
international business development. As President of North American
Trade And Investment Group, Mr. Van Heuven has represented a
number of companies in their business development activities in
Mexico, including Port of Tampa, Allied Signal, TPS International
Power, Inc., and Tew Nutriceuticals.
The author of
numerous articles on U.S.-Mexico trade, Mr. Van Heuven has worked
extensively on behalf of private industry interests in each
country. He is fluent in Spanish and has special expertise in
international law, energy development, in-bond operations,
transportation, and hi-tech industries.
Mr. Van Heuven's
education includes a J.D. law degree from Universidad Tecnologica
De Mexico, S.C., University of Houston College of Law, and a
Master's Degree in Business from the American Graduate School of
International Management. He received his undergraduate degree
from Louisiana State University (LSU) and is also a member of the
Latin American Bar Association. He has taught International
Business Law at Georgetown University, Stetson College of Law,
Tecnologico de Monterrey, and other universities in the U.S. and
Mexico.
