Robert Jones is currently the Senior Commercial Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Panama. Prior to arriving in Panama in July of 2005, Mr. Jones was the Consul for Commercial Affairs at the U.S. Consulate General in Vancouver, Canada. Previously he served as the Commercial Attache at the U.S. Embassy in Quito, Ecuador from 1998 to 2001, and served as the Consul for Commercial Affairs in Monterrey, Mexico from 1994 to 1998.

Before entering the U.S. Commercial Service in 1994, Mr. Jones managed the international programs for three major U.S. trade associations: the International Franchise Association (IFA); the Association for Suppliers of Printing, Publishing & Converting Technologies (NPES); and the International Road Federation (IRF).   As the son of a Foreign Service Officer, Mr. Jones grew up in Lahore, Pakistan from 1965-1970. He later graduated from the University of Maryland in 1979, with a degree in International Relations and Economics. In 1985, he obtained an MBA in International Management from Thunderbird (The Garvin School of International Management).
