The Hon. Cristiano Maggipinto will speak on
trends of economic and financial trade between Italy and Louisiana
with special attention to current Italian investments in
Louisiana. The Italy-Louisiana exchange has increased by 19% since
Hurricane Katrina, showing the positive trend of our commercial
relations in the last three years.
Leopoldo Sposato will speak on public
policy for internationalization of the Italian economy, Incentives
for Foreign Direct Investments (“FDI”) in Italy and for Italian
companies investing abroad, and structure and specialization of the
Italian economy with emphasis on industrial districts and centers of
excellence operating in Italy.

Cristiano Maggipinto
Born and raised in Italy, Cristiano
Maggipinto is a graduate of the University of Florence with a major
in Political Science. He entered the diplomatic career in 1989 and
pursued his diplomatic training in international commerce and trade
while assigned at the General Directorate for Economic Affairs of
the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In 1993 he was posted at the Italian Embassy in Tel Aviv as First
Counselor for Economic Affairs. In 1997 he was transferred to
Germany where he was in charge of the section for emigration and
social affairs first in Bonn then in Berlin, following the
relocation of the Embassy to that city. In January 2001 he returned
to Rome at the General Directorate for Italians Abroad and
Emigration Policy. On January 30, 2006 he officially assumed the
head of post of the Consulate General of Italy in Houston as Consul
General.
Leopoldo
Sposato
Leopoldo Sposato was born in Italy
where he graduated from the University of Naples with a degree in
Political Science. He is a distinguished postgraduate in
International Politics & Economy at John Hopkins University in
Bologna (1976). He got a degree in Economic Planning for
Underdeveloped Countries from ISVE in Naples (1977) and went on to
receive his major in Foreign Trade after attending the CORCE program
of the Italian Institute for Foreign Trade (ICE). He began his
career as a trade specialist with ICE in 1981. In 1988 he was
assigned as Deputy Director of the Italian Trade Commission Office
in Mumbay (India). In 1991 he was transferred to Libya where he
served as Director of the ICE Office in Tripoli. In 2000, he was
assigned to the ICE headquarters in Rome as Chief Project Manager
for the promotion abroad of the High Technology Sector supervising
the Environment, Biotechnology, ICT and Aerospace sections. On
August 1, 2005 he became the Trade Commissioner at the Consulate
General of Italy in Houston, opening the first Italian Trade Office
in that city.
