The C. Alvin Bertel Award is presented annually to an
individual in recognition of outstanding contributions to
the advancement of the Greater New Orleans port area. |

Billy App started his
employment with J.W. Allen & Co. freight forwarders and
custom brokers 47 years ago and rose to become President and
CEO. He has served as President of the Intermodal Club
of Greater New Orleans and President of the International Freight Forwarders and Custom Brokers Association
of New Orleans. He continues to serve as a
Commissioner
of the
Louisiana
Pilotage Fee Commission, Commissioner of the
New Orleans Public Belt Railroad, a Board
member of the New Orleans Board of Trade, and
as a member of the Board and Executive Committee of the
World Trade Center and chairs its Transportation
Committee. At the national level, Mr. App
served as Secretary of the National Customs Brokers and
Forwarders Association of America and continues to
serve as a Director and Chair of its Freight Forwarding
Committee.
